2023 Reflections

2023 is coming to an end, giving us the perfect moment to reflect on the past 12 months and to make plans for the next!

There have been some HUGE milestones this year – we have spoken at national and international conferences, we have signed up to sexual safety charters, we have been involved in several influential roundtable events including that hosted by the Working Party for Sexual Misconduct in Surgery at the GMC, we have spoken in front of the Women and Equalities Select Committee and we have knocked on the door of number 10, handing in our first report (that we also compiled this year) highlighting key themes regarding sexual misconduct within the healthcare workforce.

That’s not to mention that we have done all this as well as writing, producing and delivering multiple educational events up and down the country, writing and being featured in numerous articles as well as being interviewed for many different podcasts, radio shows and even the telly once or twice!

This has been an absolutely fantastic year, with steady growth and recognition of our campaign on a national and international stage. We are so proud of all that we have achieved!

And that’s before we take a second to consider what else we’ve had going on in our lives –  working several jobs full-time (Becky) and having and raising a baby (Chelcie). What we have managed to achieve without any dedicated time and next-to-no funding has been pretty impressive – we definitely did not think we would have accomplished half of what we have when we started Surviving in Scrubs in Chelcie’s living room back in June 2022!!!

We both have a tendency to keep thinking about what we have to do next, and how far we have to go (there are so many PLANS!!!), but it’s been a real refreshing moment to take a second to reflect on what we have achieved.

Going into the new year, we now have a group of volunteers behind us who we are really looking forward to getting involved in our new workstreams. We will be doing more social media, more research, more educational and virtual events as well as more advocacy for survivors of sexual misconduct within the healthcare workforce.

Things have been pretty good so far (we have only been in existence for 18 months) but we are determined that 2024 will be our biggest and best year YET!!!

This SISterhood isn’t going anywhere!
