About Us
Surviving in Scrubs is a UK based campaign dedicated to raising awareness of sexism, sexual harassment, and sexual assault within the healthcare workforce. The campaign was founded in 2022 by two survivors of sexual violence NHS doctors Becky Cox and Chelcie Jewitt. Through our platform, we share anonymous survivor stories to highlight the scale and impact of these issues, while advocating for cultural and systemic change across healthcare organisations. By amplifying voices that have often been silenced, we raise the survivor experience and are dedicated to creating a healthcare workplace where everyone feels safe at work.
Role Overview
We are looking for a motivated and reliable volunteer to join us as a survivor support volunteer responsible for developing and coordinating initiatives within the campaign that support survivors of sexual violence in healthcare. As a survivor led campaign we want to grow the support we offer to survivors to ensure that we have a community of support.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, lead the planning and delivery of projects aimed at supporting survivors
- Develop and moderate a virtual survivor space to provide informal support such as a Facebook group for survivors
- Ensure all work is trauma-informed, respectful, and aligned with safeguarding principles
- Coordinate with team members, partners, and relevant organisations where appropriate
- Oversee project timelines, tasks, and outcomes
- Support the creation of resources, events, or spaces designed for survivor support
- Monitor impact and gather feedback to inform ongoing improvements
What We’re Looking For
Applications are welcome from anyone working in healthcare clinical or non-clinical whether you are studying, training or working. Whether you are a nurse, porter, physiotherapist, secretary, doctor etc. We would like to establish a broad volunteer team that reflects the many different roles of people working or studying in healthcare.
- Experience in project coordination or community work working with people with lived experience of sexual violence (desirable)
- Excellent communication and interpersonal awareness
- Understanding of trauma-informed approaches and safeguarding practices
- Ability to handle sensitive topics with care and discretion
- Commitment to the campaign’s values and a survivor-centred approach
- Strong organisational skills
- Completed safeguarding level 2 training
- DBS registered

Support & Training
There will be an in person on boarding day at the start of the role with other new volunteers to get to meet the team and receive training on the campaign and your role.
Expenses
Travel expenses for Surviving in Scrubs events and other events where we have requested your attendance as part of your role as a volunteer will be reimbursed.
